In just a week we will celebrate the shortest 4th Week of Advent possible–it will only last from 4 o’clock Mass on the 23rd till 4 o’clock Mass on Christmas Eve–the first Mass of Christmas! –the Feast of the celebration of the Dawning of the Light in darkness– the birth of our Savior, Christ the Lord, King of the Universe, in the form of a helpless baby. I hope you have you managed to glimpse the miracle despite the commercialization of the “Holidays” which hides Christmas.
Be of good cheer as you conclude the observance of Advent: our Lord is the master of bringing the positive from the negative–and he invites you to help him do it through your prayer and witness. We who carry the light of that child born at Christmas are commissioned to let our brothers and sisters know why those lights shine at Christmas, and also to witness through our lives, and the joy we actively spread at Christmas, that the baby Jesus gave the gift of life through his suffering, death, and resurrection.
Be counter-cultural. Show that the decorations and lights are still testifying to God who humbled himself for our sake. Let the Lord’s glory shine in you. Pray for your neighbor, our country, and our world.
