Lifting up his eyes to heaven, Jesus prayed saying:
And now I will no longer be in the world, but they are
in the world, while I am coming to You. Holy Father,
keep them in Your name that You have given me, so
that they may be one just as We are one. ~ John 17:1,11
We have been on a journey with the Gospel of John through all this season of Easter. Last week, we heard what is called the Priestly Prayer of Jesus. It is addressed to the Father, and yet our Lord lets us hear it, so that we can understand and act as He wants us to. He speaks of us to His Father, and He teaches us so much in this prayer. I’d like to recommend a few thoughts for our meditation. He reminds us that we were not made for this world: yet, we are in it— up to our necks. We are meant to love, serve, and worship God through, with, and in the truth of Christ. And we are to generously share the Truth with all whom we have been privileged to encounter in this life. Our Lord reminds us that He will work through us, and that He offered this prayer with us in mind—He chose us, loves us, and desires to work through us.
