With the peacefulness of age, full of motherly love and Christian piety!
~ St. Augustine of Hippo, Confessions IX:4,8
Each year pastors are asked to select a member of the Parish to receive the Saint Augustine Service Award for outstanding service to the Parish and the Church as a whole in honor of Saint Augustine of Hippo, the patron of our Diocese.
This year I was pleased to nominate Italia Malagisi, and Bishop Caggiano has honored her by awarding her the St. Augustine Medal.
Italia does so much in the parish—always behind the scenes. Her devotion and service are especially shown in her love and devotion to our Church and the property around it. Long before anyone else is up and about, Italia is patrolling the church grounds making sure the stream in back isn’t trying to come in the door, clearing drains, cutting back errant growth, fixing problems, so that when the schoolchildren and mass-goers arrive everything is in order and welcoming. She also volunteers her time, talent, and resources in maintaining the altar with flowers, helping with our coffee hour, and other parish events. She does so much, quietly and behind the scenes, that I haven’t the room to list them all here. Her care for Our Father’s house is humbling. Her commitment to humble and loving service mark her as a true Christian witness, and her prayerful devotion is a service to us all.
Italia received the Saint Augustine Award Saturday, November 17th from Bishop Caggiano at our Cathedral in Bridgeport.
Please join me in offering prayers and best wishes to Italia: she richly deserves this honor and recognition from the Parish and the Diocese.
Peace & Love,
Fr. Liam Quinlan
